Opening Remarks from Cloud in the Public Sector Summit
Held at Cloud Standards Customer Council Meeting Now Available

Needham, MA, USA – May 23, 2012 – At the recent Cloud Standards Customer Council (CSCC) meeting, which featured a Cloud in the Public Sector Summit, Dawn Leaf, Senior Executive for Cloud Computing at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) presented opening remarks on “US Government Technology Roadmap Progress and Next Steps.” The audio and slide deck for her presentation are now available on the CSCC website. Visit http://www.cloud-council.org/nist-keynote

This CSCC meeting and Cloud in the Public Sector Summit brought together international public sector Cloud leaders to exchange information about current projects, future plans, and prioritized requirements. The emphasis was on the standardizations needed in technology, best practices, organizations, and policies for interoperability, portability, and trust of Clouds across national and regional boundaries. A key topic was Priority Action Plans for international security, portability and interoperability standards as called for in NIST's Cloud Technology Roadmap.

During her presentation, Ms. Leaf talked about the need to accelerate the rate of US Federal government adoption of cloud computing, and the security, interoperability and portability considerations that need to be taken into account to achieve this goal. She describes the collaborative effort that went into the Roadmap and the development of the Top 10 requirements for successful cloud implementations. She also stresses the great synergy between the needs of the US Government, vendors and international organizations to move forward with cloud. Ms. Leaf describes next steps, the current timeline, the need to identify Priority Action Plans, and the benefit of examining other technology areas for applicability to cloud adoption.
